ANTIQUE INDUSTRIAL CASTERS, RUBBER TREAD

$289.00

Rare late 1800s’ set of 4 heavy duty swivel casters of thick cast iron with hard black rubber tread to be kind to flooring. Typical factory cart set of two swivel casters to move in any direction, and two rigid casters (roll only back and forth) to follow their lead and provide stability. By G.P. Clark Company of Windsor Locks, CT- the first to develop a rubber-tread caster.

• Will raise your piece 4 1/4 inches
• 1 3/8 inch wide wheels
• Swivel casters have 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inch mounting plates. Rigid casters have 2 5/8 x 4 7/8 inch mounting plates.

Great operational, structural and cosmetic condition. Artisanal refurbishing: scoured with power wire brushes to remove thick rust, soaked in degreaser and hand scrubbed to remove dirt and factory grime, ensuring all parts move as they should, hand applied worn black paint with overspray effect…all for optimum performance and creating a luscious, clean, aged effect. Rubber tread does show normal wear. Moving parts lubricated. Ready for installation.

It would be several decades later that rubber tread casters would become commonplace, by which time, caster design was rather benign, so if you’re looking for dynamic antique industrial style with rubber tread to be kind to flooring, these will be the only set you will find. I find such a set once every several years.
