ANTIQUE SWIVEL FURNITURE CASTERS

$279.00

Set of 4 antique swivel stem furniture casters. Exceptionally rare double-wheel design of cast iron with hardwood wheels to be kind to your flooring. Small circular mounting plate and thick stem make these ideal for secure mounting to slim table legs. Engineered to swivel via two small metal wheels built into the wheel assembly which roll against the circular mounting plate- a marvel of early American Industrial Age engineering. Made by M. B. Schenck & Company of Meriden, CT; marked with patent dates of 1877 to 1881.

• Will raise your piece 2 1/8 inches.
• 1 5/8 inch diameter mounting plates with 1 3/16 inch long, 1/2 inch diameter stems
• Includes new wood mounting screws

Refurbished. Great operational, structural and cosmetic condition. Scoured with power wire brushes to remove all oxidation, soaked in degreaser and scrubbed again. Polyurethane finish applied to wheels. Moving parts lubricated.

These are a rare wooden wheel model. Wood is obviously more fragile than their cast iron counterpart, so few made it through the past 150 years. If this model will fit your piece, and you need wooden wheels to not damage flooring, grab these quickly. I come across such a model only once every several years.

Interestingly, Mr. Schenck was a supporter of presidential candidate Lincoln. He served for the duration of the Civil War, and voted for Lincoln a second time by sending his ballot home from the war. He started his caster company shortly after returning home.
