Schenck was known for casters engineered to swivel via two small wheels built into the top of the wheel assembly which roll against the mounting plate. Wheel assembly is designed to pivot side to side to keep wheels in contact with uneven surfaces. A marvel of early American Industrial Age engineering.

Mr. Schenck was a supporter of presidential candidate Lincoln. He served for the duration of the Civil War, and voted for Lincoln a second time by sending his ballot home from the war. He started his caster company shortly after returning home.
