CASTERS FOR mAUREEN

Below are caster sets I’ve yet to clean and list for sale that I think may fit your needs, as well as the set you like most, and lastly, your caster forks with new wheels. Click images to enlarge.

Am sorry, but wasn’t sure what to put for pricing, not knowing how much refurbishing you would require. If you do like any of these, let me know your thoughts on what you would want done to them and I’ll cite pricing for that. Thanks.

1930s INDUSTRIAL CASTERS

Large, very heavy duty set of thick cast iron. All swivel. Cleaned, but do show a little rust. Can be rusted further and offered as-is, or a worn blue-gray paint effect can be created as intended for those above.

4ā€ diameter wheels, so I’m guessing them to have an approx 5 1/4ā€ overall height.

$350
As-is patina with more rust in nooks and crannies.

$500
As above, with the addition of rubber ā€œtreadā€.

$550
As above, with the addition of a worn blue-gray paint effect.

Axle Bolt Rusted To Wheel

As you can see in this video, the axle bolt spins with the wheel, so it’s rusted to it. This doesn’t present a huge problem, but if this were to see heavy duty use like this, the bolt would eventually wear a larger hole in the forks that hold it. I’ve applied rust penetrant, so it will just need a little time to soak deep into the center of the wheel and begin to break down that rust.

YOUR CASTER FORKS WITH NEW RUBBER TREAD WHEELS

$250 total for the wheels, cleaning, distressing, rusting, etc.

New wheels are of cast iron with a black rubber tread to be kind to flooring (non-marking). Spoke design has that ā€œopenā€ look you like (rare to find in this smaller size). Have a black painted finish, but I can attempt to scour off some of the paint and rust them for that patina you’re looking for.

3/31 UPDATE:

The proposed wheels fit your caster forks perfectly!…the wheel has good clearance all around, and the hub fits perfectly side to side. See below.

4 1/2ā€ overall height.

The nuts are rusted onto the axle bolts on 3 of the casters, so have applied a rust penetrant that will reapply over the next day in an effort to get them off. Was able to get the nut off this one pictured, because this bolt with a square shaft (not original) doesn’t really fit all the way in, so the nut wasn’t as far on it as the others. I guess the person who put this on wasn’t familiar with the saying that you can’t put a square peg into a round hole!

Anyway, let me know if interested in going this direction. If so, I’ll email an invoice for the cost of the wheels, so I can acquire them, and then proceed with the project.

Just to be clear, 4 rigid casters on your hall tree mean it will roll back and forth only. No steering ability or changing directions. If casters are placed on the hall tree parallel to the wall, hall tree will roll only side to side. If casters are placed perpendicular to the wall, hall tree will roll directly out from the wall.

1940s’ INDUSTRIAL CASTERS, BRAKES

Large, medium duty set. Cast iron wheels in pressed steel forks. Two rigid and two swivel. Swivel casters have a brake. Rusty, crusty as-found patina. Can be refurbished as you see fit.

$325

1910s’ INDUSTRIAL CASTERS

This smaller set is included here mainly for their patina, which is what I get the sense is what you’re looking for. Cast iron with as-found patina- remnants of original paint and oxidation.

$375

ANTIQUE INDUSTRIAL CASTERS, RUBBER TREAD

This is the set you liked online, but photographed here in bright light to show patina better. I could remove some of the black paint, revealing more of the remnants of original green paint, as well as the raw metal. Add rust in nooks and crannies.

$379

1800s’ DOUBLE-WHEEL INDUSTRIAL CASTERS

Cast iron with rusty as-found patina. Can be refurbished as you see fit.
