I recently uncovered a stash of wonderful old iron gears- these with a luscious old patina of worn red paint. I handcrafted wooden display stands for them to sit in to make a perfect display for a tabletop or shelf.

Industrial Foundry Gear Pattern

Excited to have acquired a stash of wonderful antique and vintage foundry gear patterns that would make for great industrial wall art installations! See my offerings here.

Foundry patterns like these are one-of-a-kind wooden models from which molds would be made for then casting in iron for machinery. Since only one such model would be needed to make several iron duplicates and then discarded when they were no longer needed, they are much more rare than their iron offspring.

Their dynamic industrial style and worn patina makes them very decorative, and their lightweight nature makes them perfect for safe and easy wall mounting.

Several are from the Chain Belt Company of Milwaukee, WI that revolutionized industry in the late 1800s with the concept of replacing leather belts with their Rex chain belts for driving machinery, Schlitz Brewing Company being one of their first clients.

Ranging from 17" to 32" diameter, you're sure to find the perfect one for your project.

Iron Anarchy recently recieved a request from a client in Texas to create an installation of industrial gears and wheels for a 4’ x 7’ space in his home. Attached is a proposed layout featuring a large central wooden gear flanked by two metal wheels with worn paint, and then assorted metal gears and wheels. An old industrial chain “ties" the elements together, while creating a strong vertical accent which moves the eye up and down the wall.

Large Decorative Antique Industrial Iron Casters Hardware

Early 20th century set of massive, extra-heavy duty casters of very thick cast iron by Bond. Two lock-position casters and two swivel casters.

Each has a 4.5" overall height. Wheels are 3” diameter. The two swivel casters have a 1.5" face with a 5.5" x 4” mounting plate. The two locked casters have a 2" face with a 4.5” square mounting plate.

Am continuing to stock a selection of antique industrial casters. Demand is high, and they’ve been selling almost as fast as I can post the listings. I love the wonderful oxidized cast iron patinas and ornate designs of those from the 1800s. Have been contacted by several artisan furniture makers looking for these, and am keeping an eye out for those which they each like, so if you have specific requirements, please feel free to contact me too.

I stock the singular wheels, the swivel casters, and the locked position ones too! Occasionally, I have wheels with their original axles.

Ultra-amazing old wheel in a “stop-dead-in-your-tracks” design in extra-thick, extra-chunky iron! Curved spikes riveted to a webbed, bat-wing-like wheel. Which is cooler- the front or back? Front features both raised and incised text. Back features more bulging rivet heads and raised text. Extremely rare! Have never seen this style before. You will not find one like this again!

Industrial Gear Wall Sculpture *Select*

Today I received final approval on a pair of layouts I created for an architect client in Philadelphia. See main photo.

Was contacted last week by DAS Architects for an installation of antique gears and wheels in a pair of 7’ wall niches for the activity room in a new development. They sent me the niche dimensions, wall covering samples and gave me direction as to what they were looking for, so I developed a series of layouts for them within their budget. The chosen sculptures feature items from my online shop- a massive antique saw mill blade (cut in half), as well as antique and vintage iron wheels and gears. A length of old, square-link industrial chain provides a vertical accent in each piece.

Now with the design chosen, we’re moving forward with preparing the elements for mounting, then shipping them to Philadelphia for installation. So exciting!

Very excited about the recent acquisition of several antique industrial gears, each engraved with the number of cogs on its wide face. Thick cast iron with gently swirling spokes and luscious patinas!

From the Montgomery Worsted Mills, an old textile mill on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places along the Wallkill River at the end of Factory Street in the village of Montgomery, New York. Some still have their thick layer of factory grime embedded with wool fibers, validating its provenance from the mill! A great piece of American history!

Mary & George’s Industrial Gear Wall Sculpture Installation

Recent clients and newest friends, Mary and George wanted to create an industrial gear focal point for their Detroit loft’s living room wall. They sent a photo of the area, and I Photoshopped some arrangements at various price points for their consideration. We then collaborated on the designs until one was chosen. Custom wall brackets were fabricated and all elements were shipped to Detroit where the wall sculpture sprang to life!

They wrote:
“From start to finish it has been great working with you - you have been professional, accommodating and had a complete understanding of the design idea we were going for. You are highly recommended!”
